Lifeline

by: Sann
As the cardiac monitor beeps
And its line pulsates through the night
Who's to say how long it will keep
As our marriage hangs on to dear life

The ventilator has total control
And each breath is not ours anymore
As we've given up hope through it all
And let fate itself take its own course.

What now if that line becomes still?
Should we torment ourselves with more pain?
As 360 joules surge through our nerves
Is this life-saving effort in vain?

Each compression indeed we'll endure
As more drugs are pushed in our lines
Still our hearts remain still and unsure
Pure exhaustion is felt at this time

I can feel that the end is quite near
For some things are just not meant to be
As the sound of our last breath is heard...
May the peace in our hearts set us free.
